Service

I have diabetes but I also have other diagnosed disease states. Can I still benefit from the Axon T4 NET service?

Yes. Controlling your blood glucose levels to near normal levels is always important because it decreases the frequency and severity of complications.   However, please note that our expertise is in controlling diabetes, and the monitoring of other disease states cannot be undertaken by the diabetes team at BDEC.

My partner and I both have diabetes. Can we both use the service on the same PC?

Yes. You will need to subscribe separately and you will be given individual usernames and passwords. Once you have downloaded and installed the Axon T4NET software for one, there is no need to repeat this step for your partner.

Both of you will log in using your individual password.

Can I get a discounted price for two or more family members?

No. Our cost is based on the medical support needed to monitor each patient. Both family members will need the same degree of attention and time.  Each can access the system via the software installed on your computer, but each will be provided with a separate user name and password.

I do not live in the UK. Can I still use the Axon T4NET service?

Yes. It does not matter where you are located. All you need is a PC and access to the Internet.

Do I need any special equipment to use the Axon service?

No.  You just need access to an Internet connection and a laptop or desktop computer (minimum system requirements), with the Axon software installed.  The computer could be at your home, work, friend's or parents' house.  No information is stored on the computer, so without your username and password no-one else will have access to your information.

Can I take my laptop on holiday and still use the Axon T4NET service?

Yes. It does not matter where you are located. All you need is access to the Internet.

Can I download the Axon T4NET software and use it on more than one PC?

Yes. No information is stored on your PC and so you can log in using any PC or laptop (minimum system requirements) you have downloaded the Axon T4NET software to each PC or laptop.

We do not restrict you in downloading the Axon T4NET software to more than one of your PCs or laptops.

Medical Devices

Can I automatically upload data from any meter or insulin pump?

At present our service supports automatic upload from ACCU-CHEK® and OneTouch® blood glucose meters, and ACCU-CHEK® and Animas® insulin pumps.  Support for other medical devices is underway.

If your glucose meter or pump is not currently supported, you can enter your readings via the keyboard.  Although this is not the best solution, you will gain the immediate benefit of being able to communicate directly with the hospital-based diabetes specialists.

I use a different blood glucose meter at work or when I travel.  Can I use two meters?

Yes.  The Axon T4NET can discriminate between meters.  The software will take the readings from both your meters, sort and display them in time order.

Communicating with Health Professionals

How do I communicate with the hospital?

You can send and receive messages via the Axon T4NET secure messaging function. These messages are permanently stored, so you can always refer to answers or suggestions you have received.

Can I contact the hospital by phone?

No.  However any messages sent via the Axon T4NET secure messaging function will be answered within 24 hours.

Can I contact Axon by phone?

Yes.  We are available on weekdays from 0900 - 1700 hours and will be pleased to help in any way possible.

Who reviews the medical data?

On a daily basis, a monitoring and message answering review is undertaken by specialist diabetes nurses at the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospital’s Diabetes and Endocrine Centre (BDEC) who work under the supervision of consultants in the hospital.

How do I know that the hospital has seen my results?

Your results will be electronically time stamped when viewed by the hospital team. When in the Chart view there will be a date and time record of when the hospital last reviewed your readings.  At the bottom of the Chart page it will say, for example: "Last Viewed On xx July xx 11:40 by Joan Everett".

What service do I get from the hospital?

The Axon diabetes monitoring service specialist nurses provide help, advice and reassurance to you, in your routine self-management of diabetes. If acute complications occur, you must seek immediate help from your own doctor, diabetes specialist or local hospital. However, our aim is to help you to reduce the occurrence of these complications.

You can message the hospital-based nurses, at any time, with any diabetes-related questions. Messages will always be answered within 24 hours.

If your blood glucose levels are regularly falling outside your agreed target range, BDEC will be looking carefully at your results and will offer proactive advice to help you bring your levels under control and maintain them within your target range.

Will my family doctor support me in self-management of my disease?

Yes. The Axon T4NET service is designed to help your family doctor by providing him/her with timely information so that they can manage and help more patients.  We would encourage you to discuss your results when you next visit.  Although you do not need to enter your medical details, you may want to ask your doctor for this information so that you can better self-manage your condition.

Can my own doctor or diabetes nurse see my results?

Yes.  All you need to do is provide us with his/her details and we will issue them with the authorisation codes to see your results.  You can also nominate another family member, friend or carer to have access to your records – you decide.

Thousands of subscribers all making a relatively small contribution makes it all possible.
